The filesize of the layered panorama is roughly equal to the number of
pixels times 3 bytes times the number of source images.
If you create a layered 8000x12000 pano, then each layer will be 288 MB
(8000x12000x3 bytes) in size (even if the actual image only occupies a
small part of the layer). You would need 25 x 288 MB for the entire
panorama.
However, Windows' file size is limited to 2 GB, so it will fail after 6
images. There's no way you will ever get the complete panorama as a
25-layer photoshop file.
The trick here is to make 5 separate panoramas, each of only 5 source
images. For each partial panorama you then adjust the seams, do whatever
retouching you need. Then you flatten the image and save as a psd file.
When you have the 5 partial panoramas, insert them as separate layers
into a new photoshop file and retouch the seems between the 5 'images'.
Then flatten and you have your full panorama.
